Built in 1934 by the Count of Ervideira, O Azinhal takes its name from the historic estate – Monte do Azinhal, a local landmark and a reference in the region.
Born from the desire to preserve a house that has always been a gathering place for memories, this family project honors the past while looking to the future.
Now transformed into a premium country guesthouse, designed for those seeking an exclusive slow-living experience — with comfort and total privacy — O Azinhal perpetuates a historical and emotional legacy for those who recognise the value of what is rare, authentic, and unrepeatable.
Architecture
Rehabilitated with deep respect for its original identity by Architect António Marques Miguel (Valmor Prize, 1983), O Azinhal keeps its authentic Alentejo essence intact.
The project preserved the traditional U-shaped layout of the Monte, including spacious porches adorned with tile panels that reinforce the signature character of rural Alentejo architecture.
Recognised as a Property of Municipal Interest, it stands out today as a rare example of Alentejo’s historical, architectural, and cultural heritage.
The Swimming Pool
Dive in and drift away
Inspired by a traditional Alentejo water tank, the swimming pool is the ideal space to relax, read, and enjoy the long, warm Alentejo days. Perfectly integrated into the landscape and overlooking a vast almond grove, it is the perfect spot to unwind, connect and create lasting memories.
The Landscape
The landscape is the natural extension of the house
Set among centuries-old olive trees, cypresses, palm trees, fruit trees, and native plants, the landscape dictates its own slow pace. Here, true luxury is listening to the wind, recognizing the shifting seasons, breathing in the aromas, and watching time unhurriedly drift by.
